ISABELLA FERRO - 'PORTOBELLO MARKET'
A year ago, Isabella started to explore this great community that is Portobello Market, one of the most popular places to visit in London due to the extensive stalls full of beautiful and rare antiques. Millions of people come to visit this place every year, it’s a market that is constantly giving a unique experience for travellers. However, the owners of these places are very concerned that this market will disappear in the next few years because the new generations have no interest in the market anymore. Therefore, with photography, Isabella wanted to preserve the owners and their place of work. She wanted to preserve the generation that spent their lives sitting on a stall waiting for people to buy their antiques until the uncertainty of the future falls on them. Now, with the current situation (COVID-19) that we are facing, the concept of preservation becomes even more relevant.
After living in Colombia for 18 years, Isabella decided to travel to London and become a photographer. Her main interests are in documentary and urban photography. She is passionate about photographing people and the use of black and white. What really fascinates her is the process behind each image and the link between the camera, as a form of machine, and the human contact it records.
